City Mourns Councilman Clarence Liberty
2/7/2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Councilman Clarence Liberty.
Councilman Liberty dedicated decades of his life to the service of the citizens of Waynesville beginning in 1993 when he took the Oath of Office as a Reserve Police Officer. With hard work and dedication to service, Councilman Liberty rose through the ranks of the Waynesville Police Department to be promoted to Assistant Chief of Police in 2008. He then served another 8 years before retiring in 2016.
Councilman Liberty filed for candidacy as a Councilman to serve Ward II in 2017 and served on the City Council until his passing. He was voted Mayor Pro-Tem by his peers and served in that capacity from 2021 to 2022 and then again in 2023.
During his time with the City, Councilman Liberty was well known by his charity work with the Special Olympics and several other non-profit organizations in the greater Fort Leonard Wood area. His enthusiasm, love of friends and family and his fierce commitment to the City of Waynesville will be deeply missed.
