Coming Next Monday!
Officer David Gomez, a nationally renowned speaker and law enforcement officer, will be presenting a critical and informative talk on how to protect children from online dangers, including online predators, cyberbullying, and the influence of drugs and alcohol on social media.
The event will take place at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2025, at the Waynesville High School Auditorium. The presentation is free of charge and open to the public. The event is being sponsored by the Pulaski County Opioid Committee, the City of Waynesville, the Four Rivers Community Health Center, and the Waynesville R-VI Foundation.
In his talk, Officer Gomez will draw from his extensive experience in law enforcement, having operated multiple undercover social media accounts to arrest predators and locate missing children. He will also address the risks associated with social media, the increasing normalization of drugs in online spaces, and the profound influence of substance abuse on today’s youth.
Gomez, who is also a prominent voice on YouTube and a TED Talk speaker, has dedicated his career to educating both youth and parents about the dangers of digital devices, drugs, and alcohol. His efforts to positively influence young people and equip them with the knowledge to make safer decisions have earned him national recognition.
"We're thrilled to welcome Officer Gomez to our community and the City of Waynesville is proud to sponsor this free event," said Mayor Sean A. Wilson. "His expertise and experience will provide invaluable insights into how we can better protect our children in an increasingly digital world."
This event presents a unique opportunity for parents, educators, and community members to learn how to safeguard children from online threats and foster safer digital habits. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions and engage with Officer Gomez following the presentation.
